The first Embraer KC-390 Millennium ordered by the Czech Republic has completed its maiden flight in Brazil, marking a major milestone for the Czech Air Force modernization program and NATO air mobility capabilities.
In this video, we examine the operational and strategic importance of Prague’s acquisition of the KC-390, a next-generation multi-role military transport aircraft designed for tactical airlift, aerial refuelling, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, and rapid troop deployment.
Powered by two IAE V2500-E5 turbofan engines, the KC-390 can carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo, reach speeds of Mach 0.8, and operate from austere or damaged runways. The aircraft also features fly-by-wire controls, advanced avionics, NATO-compatible cargo systems, and aerial refuelling capabilities for both helicopters and fighter aircraft.
The arrival of the KC-390 will strengthen the Czech Republic’s ability to support NATO rapid-reaction operations across Europe while reducing dependence on multinational transport fleets.
