Australia Turns Boxer Armoured Vehicle Into Command Hub for Voice-Controlled Drone Swarms

0

Australia is transforming its Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles into mobile command hubs capable of controlling multiple drones through voice commands.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia and Australian defence technology company Breaker have demonstrated a new human-machine teaming capability using Breaker’s Avalon software. During the trial, a Boxer crew member with less than 30 minutes of training controlled a drone swarm using the vehicle’s standard microphone and headset, without additional screens or control stations.

This technology could allow Australian Army reconnaissance units to deploy multiple drones ahead of armoured formations, detect potential threats, monitor terrain and extend battlefield surveillance while keeping crews protected inside their vehicles.

As unmanned systems become increasingly important in modern warfare, integrating autonomous drones directly into combat vehicles could reshape reconnaissance operations and human-machine teaming on future battlefields.
