For the past decade, Turkey and Qatar have been working on strengthening their military ties. Taking delivery of the first cadet training ship, the Al Doha, marked the culmination of their long-standing relationship. The ship was delivered to the Qatari Emiri Navy on August 28, 2021, by the Turkish shipyard Anadolu Shipyard (ADIK).

As Oguz Kaya, ADIK’s planning and project engineer, wrote on Linkedin, “Anadolu Shipyard, participating world’s major naval programs, is proud to deliver the 1st Navy Ship to QENF within 30 months without any delay where almost half of the programme was conducted under pandemic conditions.”

“The crew hoisted the glorious Qatari Flag to AL DOHA in Anadolu Shipyard premises, Istanbul. The ship will continue Tactical Training before sailing to Doha. This is the first big size Navy Ship, OPV Class (2150 tons) CTS, with 90 meters length, which is built in a Turkish Shipyard and exported.” He went on to say more.

Qatar ordered two Cadet Training Ships from ADIK at DIMDEX 2018, the first ship, Al Doha (QTS-91), was launched on 8 October 2020.

The ship was designed by the Anadolu Shipyard’s own crew in accordance with the special requests of the Qatar Naval Forces.
