Russian Navy Day to host more than 200 warships

About 200 combat ships will take part in parades on Russian Navy Day on July 26 across the country, Russian Defense Minister said at the ministry’s conference call on 30th June.

“Overall, the festivities will involve about 200 warships of various classes, more than 100 items of combat hardware, up to 80 aircraft and about 15,000 personnel,” the defense chief said.

Russia’s Main Naval Parade will take place in St. Petersburg and Kronshtadt, minister said.

“We are planning to involve 46 ships, boats and submarines, 42 aircraft and over 4,000 personnel in it,” the defense minister specified.

On the occasion of Russian Navy Day, naval parades are to be held at the bases of the Navy’s fleets and flotillas in Severomorsk, Baltiysk, Sevastopol, Kaspiysk, Vladivostok and the Russian naval logistics center of Tartus in Syria.

“I am drawing the attention of all commanders to the strict observance of the entire set of anti-epidemic measures to exclude any risks for the health of the parades’ participants,” the defense chief stressed.

Russian Naval Parade for Russian Navy Day-2019 was conducted at 6 different ports. The main celebration was held in St.Petersburg (led by President Putin), and other parades have been held at Baltiysk, Sevastopol, Severomorsk and Astrakhan, as well as in the Syrian port of Tartus. Prime Minister Medvedev attended the parade at Sevastopol. The Main Naval Parade involved more than 4,000 personnel, 43 warships and submarines as well as 41 aircraft.

Russian Navy Day :

Russian Navy Day is a national holiday in the Russian Federation and a senior holiday in the Russian Armed Forces. The day honours the sailors in units of the Russian Navy and its specialized arms (Naval Aviation and the Coastal Troops consisting of the Naval Infantry and the Coastal Missile and Artillery Troops). It is celebrated annually, on the last Sunday of July.

The original version of the Russian Navy was founded in 1696 for the Tsardom of Russia. In the Soviet Union, Navy Day was established by a decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR and the Central Committee of the VKPB of June 22, 1939, in June 1939; in connection with the Battle of Gangut. The holiday was cancelled on October 1, 1980, by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet. By the Decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Navy Day was re-established on July 27, 2017, as the principal anniversary event in connection with Russian Navy Day celebrations.
