Turkish defence companies Meteksan Defence and Ares Shipyard unveiled the first AUSV (Armed Unmanned Surface Vessel) of Turkey named “ULAQ” with a press meeting on 28th October.
It’s stated by the official during the meeting that, the prototype of the indigenous AUSV is completed. The first vessel will be launched in December 2020, sea trials including firing tests are expected to be conducted in the first quarter of 2021.
It was reported that ULAQ, which means messenger in Turkish, got its name from the messengers in Turkish culture, and the superior intelligence, fighting, reconnaissance and intelligence skills of the messengers were transferred to ULAQ AUSV.
The new AUSV which would bear reconnaissance, patrol and intelligence missions, will be outfitted with EW (including jamming capability) and EO sensors. In addition, to be controlled by a ground station, ULAQ would be launched from the sea assets during operations.
The further versions of ULAQ will be developed with ASW and MCM capabilities.
