Colombia is taking a major step in modernizing its air power with the acquisition of two Embraer KC-390 Millennium aircraft under a $366.4 million contract. Scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030, the aircraft will progressively replace ageing C-130 Hercules transports while providing tactical airlift, medical evacuation, humanitarian support, and aerial refueling capabilities. The first KC-390 will be equipped for the tanker mission, providing critical aerial refueling support for Colombia’s future fleet of 17 Gripen E/F fighter jets and significantly expanding the operational reach of the Colombian Air Force.
