Belgian firearms Company FN Herstal has designed and developed a full range of assault rifles including the FN SCAR-H chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO caliber and the FN SCAR-L chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO caliber. The SCAR is a family of assault rifles that was developed by FN Herstal for the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) to satisfy the requirements of the SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifles) competition.
