On Saturday, China commissioned its first 10,000-ton class maritime patrol vessel Haixun 09, which is outfitted with cutting-edge technology and a broad range of capabilities, Global Times China reported. The ship is anticipated to improve the country’s marine traffic governance.

The Haixun 09, China’s first comprehensive command flagship operating in deep seas, is capable of cross-sea safety patrols as well as emergency search and rescue activities in complicated ocean settings. According to China Central Television (CCTV), it would act as a mobile law enforcement platform for marine patrols, as well as emergency coordination and command, and pollution prevention command at sea.

The vessel will boost China’s maritime traffic dynamic control and emergency assistance capabilities as an important component of the country’s huge maritime service fleet.

It will play an important role in effectively ensuring the smooth transportation of strategic goods and the safety of critical shipping lanes, realizing the stability of international maritime logistics supply chains, supporting high-quality development of the shipping industry, and safeguarding China’s maritime rights and interests.

On Saturday, the vessel joined a maritime law enforcement formation in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, South China.

The vessel’s construction began in May 2019. It is 165 meters in length, 20.6 meters in breadth, 9.5 meters in depth, and weighs around 13,000 tons. At a speed of 16 nautical miles per hour, it has a range of at least 10,000 nautical miles. It can reach speeds of more than 25 knots.

The yacht was built to travel in the open seas far beyond the coastal zone for up to 90 days without resupply of fuel and food.

It also contains a helicopter landing pad and a data center outfitted with satellite communication equipment, including China’s Beidou Navigation Satellite System, to monitor and provide early warnings, analyzes information, and command and govern at sea extensively.
