Russian and Chinese warships conduct 1st joint patrol in western Pacific

Between October 17-23, Russian and Chinese warships conducted the first-ever coordinated patrol in the western Pacific Ocean, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

“The tasks of the combined patrols were to display the Russia and China state flags, to promote peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, and to defend the facilities of both countries’ marine economic activities. The Pacific Fleet’s forces, which included the measuring ship Marshal Krylov, the large anti-submarine warfare ships Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev, and the Project 20380 corvettes Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov and Gromky, represented the Russian Navy in the joint naval task force of ten warships.

The Chinese Navy dispatched destroyers Kunming and Nanchang, corvettes Qinzhou and Luzhou, and the supply ship Dongpinghu.

Naval sailors from Russia and China undertook coordinated tactical maneuvering and drills. During their joint patrol, the warships covered a total distance of over 1,700 nautical miles.

As previously reported, the Russian and Chinese navies conducted three-day naval exercises in the Sea of Japan.
