Dutch Damen Shipyard wins contract for German Navy’s multi-purpose combat ship

The German Navy’s new warship “MKS 180” is to be built under Dutch leadership at Blohm and Voss in Hamburg. The Damen Shipyards emerged victorious from the tender. 

The Ministry of Defense announced to the responsible Bundestag committees today (Jan 13) that the Dutch company had emerged as the winner from the tendering process

German Naval Yards in Kiel also applied to Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TkMS) as a subcontractor for the billion dollar project. 

With the “MKS 180” project, the Ministry of Defense wants to purchase a new multi-purpose combat ship. A total of EUR 5.27 billion is estimated for the procurement of four ships. It is the largest naval order of this type in the history of the German Navy .
