🎥 Northrop Grumman is advancing its YFQ-48A Talon Blue autonomous wingman under Project Talon, an initiative designed to accelerate the development, testing, and integration of autonomous combat-aircraft technologies for the U.S. Air Force.
🛡️ In this DefenseWebTV report, we examine how Talon Blue could support the Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) strategy. The program works alongside Talon IQ, a flying testbed used to evaluate autonomy software and mission functions before they are transferred to operational platforms.
⚡ The YFQ-48A has been designed with modularity, rapid production, and reduced complexity in mind. Northrop Grumman says the aircraft uses fewer parts, is lighter, and could be manufactured faster than its earlier CCA design, helping reduce cost and development timelines.
✈️ Talon Blue joins a growing field of autonomous combat-aircraft programs that includes General Atomics’ YFQ-42A, Anduril’s YFQ-44A, Boeing’s MQ-28 Ghost Bat, and Lockheed Martin’s Vectis.
🎯 Project Talon highlights a broader U.S. effort to combine crewed fighters with autonomous wingmen, increasing combat mass, flexibility, and survivability in future high-intensity air operations.
