According to a source of TASS agency close to the Russian defense ministry, Russia’s largest shipyard, Sevmash (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), will deliver over two nuclear submarines to the Russian Navy next year.
“The present plans for 2022 envisage the transfer of one strategic [submarine] – the Generalissimus Suvorov missile-carrying submarine [of the Borei-A class] – and one assault [submarine], the Krasnoyarsk multipurpose sub [of the Yasen-M class],” said the source.
According to him, both subs will be assigned to the Pacific Fleet.
At the time of publication, there is no official confirmation of this information.
On December 26, 2014, the strategic nuclear-powered submarine Generalissimus Suvorov was put down at the Sevmash Shipyard in Russia’s northwest. The submarine is part of the Navy’s fourth generation of nuclear-powered submarines. The Russian Navy currently operates four Project 955 and modified Project 955A submarines. The Knyaz Oleg, the Project’s fifth submarine, will be delivered to the Navy in December 2021.
The Rubin Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering created the Borei- and Borei-A-class submarines. They are armed with 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles and 533mm torpedo tubes.
In addition, Sevmash is constructing six Project 885M nuclear submarines. The Novosibirsk, the first serial sub of this series, is now undergoing trials.
