In the early morning of November 18th , 2021 while at sea off the coast of Norway, a fire occurred in the forward engine room of HMCS Fredericton. Upon discovery of the fire, the crew immediately took action and extinguished the fire.
Crew took immediate action to extinguish the blaze, no injuries were reported. The ship en route to Norwegian port for repairs.
This is the second time the ship is suffering from a fire in forward engine room. A previous fire broke out in the forward engine room of the frigate on 6 May 2009. The fire was suppressed within a few minutes and the ship made a brief stop at the home base of Halifax before being given the all-clear to return to sea.
HMCS Fredericton is now serving as the flagship of Standing Nato Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1).

HMCS Fredericton (FFH 337) is a Halifax-class frigate that has served in the Canadian Forces since 1994. Fredericton is the eighth ship in her class which is based on the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project. She is the second vessel to carry the designation HMCS Fredericton.
Fredericton was laid down on 25 April 1992 at Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd., Saint John and launched on 26 June 1993. She was officially commissioned into the Canadian Navy on 10 September 1994.
